Joseph John Kloberdanz, 97, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2013 at Pacifica Senior Living, under the care of the Pacifica staff, Community Hospice of Modesto and his loving family. Joseph, one of twelve children was born in Delta, Colorado to parents, Joseph and Opal Kloberdanz, who were originally from the village of Rothummel, Saratov, Russia. His two older sisters, Katherine and Pauline were also born in Russia. His parents' ancestors were among the group of German families invited by the Russian Government to settle in the Volga River Region to help establish a farming community. While growing up, Joseph's family farmed in Minnesota and later Colorado ~ Delta, Olathe, Montrose, and Sterling. During WWII Joseph was a Flight Engineer, delivering B-24s to Australia. After the war, he eventually settled in Modesto, California after spending time in San Diego, California and Roseburg and Wallowa, Oregon. Joseph has lived in Modesto over 60 years during which he worked as an Electrician. He also taught night classes at Modesto Junior College for those interested in becoming Journeymen Electricians. Joseph has been a member of St. Joseph's and St. Stanislaus Parish, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club (65yrs.), and German Club ~ De Hermann Sohne Club Lodge #50 of Stanislaus. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Kloberdanz. He is survived by his brother, Frank Kloberdanz, three children: Sharon Liakos, Sonja (Mel) Raley, and Michael (Kayleen) Kloberdanz, 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave. Hughson CA, 95326, on Saturday, August 31st at 9:30am in the Riverside Chapel.
