MARVEL M. KNIGHT
December 15, 1922 - May 16, 2014
Marvel M. Knight, 91, passed away on 5/16/2014 with family at her bedside.
Marvel Knight was born in Mussel Shell County, Montana on 12/15/1922 to parents Horace and Florence McGiboney. She was the only one of her parent's children to survive. When she was age 8, her mother died and she moved to Los Angeles to live with her beloved aunt Carolyn Parkinson Bailey. Marvel worked as a model during the 3 years she attended UCLA and worked as a legal secretary all of her working life. She married William Knight in 1944. They were married for 26 years when he died suddenly at age 48. The family relocated to the Central Valley in 1951 and she resided in Escalon for almost 40 years until moving to Modesto.
Marvel was fiercely independent and had a great sense of humor. She loved being with friends and family. She traveled extensively. She enjoyed reading and playing the organ. Marvel volunteered at DMC and her condo HOA. She was a lifelong learner, taking many college classes over the years. Her oldest grandson often teased her by asking if she was "getting her PhD at MJC."
She leaves behind 5 children for whom she was always an inspiration. Two sons: Dr. William Knight (Jan), and John Knight (Mireille); and three daughters: Mariann Littlepage (Tim), Marilyn Soares (Jim), and Carolyn List. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Marvel was baptized and raised in the Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Saturday June 14 at 11am.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to Community Hospice for their efficient and caring services. In lieu of flowers, family asks that any memorial contributions be offered to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way 95356, or St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1528 Oakdale Rd 95355.
