RICK WILLIAM MEADER
OCTOBER 14, 1946 - JULY 5, 2013
Rick William Meader passed away on July 5, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was the second child born to Stewart and Lena Mae "Babe" Meader on October 14, 1946. He was born in Modesto and lived here all of his 66 years. He attended Modesto City Elementary Schools and Roosevelt Jr. High. He attended Downey High School for one semester while Davis High School was being completed and graduated from Davis High School with the first graduating class in 1964. He was looking forward to his 50th class reunion next year.
After graduating from high school in 1964, Rick joined the National Guard and completed his 6 year commitment in 1970.In 1968 he married Lavonne Ford and they enjoyed 45 years together. They had three children: Scott, Michelle and Kevin. Rick was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and a true friend to many. He was always a hard worker and provided well for his family. He will be missed by many.
Rick enjoyed working for Major Hoskings and Sysco Food Services in several capacities, but mostly as a truck driver until his illness forced an early retirement at the age of 62, after 28 years of service.
Rick and Lavonne went on several trips together including a trip to the Bahamas, Washington DC, Hawaii, and a cruise to Alaska.
Rick was a member of the Modesto Elks Lodge #1282 for more than 25 years. He was also a member of E Clampus Vitus Chapter 58 since 1992, in which he was an officer and held the position of Noble Grand Humbug.
Rick is survived by his wife Lavonne, son Scott, and daughter Michelle. He is also survived by his brother Jeff Meader and sisters-in-law, Linda Meader, Debbie Ford and Valerie Roberts. He was preceded in death by his son Kevin and his parents.
Viewing will be held at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 12th from 4:00-8:OOPM. Services will be on Saturday, July 13th at 11:00AM at Salas Brothers.
