March 15, 1921 - January 17, 2014
Robert Jennings passed away peacefully at home in Hughson on January 17th just two months short of his 93rd birthday. He was a man who loved to joke and have fun with his family and friends.
He was born and raised in Stockton, CA, and was truly admired by all. Bob was a man of great integrity. In his youth he was active in the Boy Scouts and the Y.M.C.A. He was a youth counselor at Y. camp for many years.
He attended San Jose State, where he received his teaching credential and was house manager of Alpha Pi Delta, now Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He also attended Cal Berkeley and U.O.P where he obtained his master's degree and administrative credential.
After college, Bob joined the Merchant Marines and was an Alumni at Kings Point for the Merchant Marines Academy. After serving his country during World War II, Bob came back to California, to marry the love of his life, Marjorie McDonald. They first resided in Hollister, CA and Bob entered the civilian workforce as a shop teacher for the local high school. The couple then moved to Stockton, where he spent most of his teaching and administrative career with Stockton Unified School District. He spent many years as an active member in Kiwanis.
Marjorie was able to enjoy the pleasures of lovely homes Bob built for her and his family. The first home he built was a lovely home in Morada, which was on the Tour of Homes. He also built two mountain homes in Calaveras County. In retirement, Bob and Marjorie moved to Forest Meadows, where he helped build his own home with a shop so he could continue his passion for woodworking. Bob was an avid woodworker, and built many items for the community to enjoy; among the items were pews, a cross, a baptismal and an alter for the First Congregational Church, in Murphys, CA. He was an active member on the Board of Directors for Forest Meadows Home Owners Association and a president of SIRS. Bob was a resident of Samaritan Village where he served as a council member for the residents' council.
Bob loved to fish, backpack, golf, ski, camp, and enjoyed a healthy lifestyle of daily exercise.
His pleasure was enjoying these things with his family and friends. He was loved by all and will be remembered for his kind heart, generosity, and strong integrity. He was a good listener and always saw the good in people. Those who knew him were encouraged to be a better person by simply being a part of his life.
