William Arthur Haas

Bill Haas, age 83, passed away on August 18, 2013, in the presence of his family in Turlock, CA. Bill was born in Boonton, New Jersey, on May 18, 1930 to John and Anna Haas. Bill lived in Boonton where he graduated from Boonton High School and then Union College in Schenectady, New York. After he graduated college, he enlisted in the Army and served from 1953 to his honorable discharge in 1956.
Bill was employed at Western Electric in Newark, NJ, where he met and married Jean Bonito. Bill and Jean lived in Jersey City, NJ, and Bill continued his education receiving an MBA from Rutgers College. Western Electric transferred him to California in 1962. At that time, they had two children.
Bill and Jean lived in Fremont while Bill continued to work at Western Electric as an electrical engineer. Another two children were soon added to the family. Bill continued to work for Western Electric until he retired in 1999. Upon retirement, Bill and Jean moved to Turlock. Bill was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a life-long student and had many interests. He especially loved music and enjoyed playing the piano for family and friends. He enjoyed building things with his hands and had several projects, including building televisions and hi-fi stereo components. Bill loved sports and playing golf; he was the secretary of the Sunnyvale Golf Club for several years. He liked gardening and grew beautiful flowers and roses. He was an avid reader and had a wonderful sense of humor- he loved to entertain his family with jokes, puns, facts, and stories.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean, his children, Frank (Debbie) Haas, Annamarie (Kip) Gilbert, John (Lisa) Haas, and Michael (Sonia) Haas, 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Bill was loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30 at All Saints Catholic Church, 4040 McKenna Dr., in Turlock. The recitation of the rosary will begin at 10:15, and the funeral mass will at begin 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Rd.
