Seaside - David Anderson, 71, a retired computer systems manager, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Born November 16, 1941 in Carmel, California, he was a lifelong resident of the Monterey Peninsula. After graduating from high school in 1959, Dave served in the Navy as a Radioman/Cryptographer aboard various ships and took part in the 1962 nuclear testing on Christmas Island in the Pacific.

Following his honorable discharge in 1963, Dave worked for NCR for over 15 years as a technical service representative in Monterey County, maintaining and repairing many types of retail and business machines and computers. He installed and maintained the first ATM on the Central Coast. Ê

Dave joined The Salinas Californian in 1978 and was instrumental in installing their first mainframe computer system for news production and classified ad-taking. He then continued to manage and maintain the Californian's computer systems, as well as the phone and voicemail systems, until his retirement in 1999.

Dave was a loyal fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers and all types of motor sports.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Luci, of Santa Cruz; his brothers, Roger of San Francisco and Michael of Carmel Valley; and two grandchildren, Erica and Austin.
