CARL RICHARD JOHNSON Born: January 1, 1923; Chicago Died: December 21, 2013; Morris Carl Richard Johnson, age 90, who resided at 512 Vine St., Morris, IL died on Saturday, December 21, 2013 in Morris. Carl was born on January 1, 1923 to Oscar and Helga (Thorngren)Johnson in Chicago, IL. After attending Fenger High School in Chicago, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II from 1942 - 1945. He then attended the University of Illinois in Champaign. After graduation, he worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, Champaign, IL and Nelson Concrete Culvert Company, Mt. Vernon, IL. In 1964, he founded Johnson Precast Bridge Company and Johnson Grade Master in Morris. Carl married June Swanson of Chicago on September 29, 1951. They resided in Mt. Vernon, IL until they moved with their three children to Morris in 1965 where he resided until his death. Carl was known for his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for his family and for his country. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June; his brother, Edwin Johnson and his sister, Ruth Serra. He is survived by his children, Dr. Jeffrey (Beth) Johnson of Cary, IL, Nancy (Matt) Myre of DeKalb, IL and Dr. Richard Johnson of Morris; his grandchildren, Dr. Brian Myre, Kristine (Charles) Sims, Sarah (Mark) Hilde, Peter (Katie) Johnson, Emily Myre and Susanne Johnson; great grandchildren, Joshua, Leah and Emma Hilde, Andrew and Ella Sims and Luke Johnson; his dear friend, Louise Button. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, December 28, 2013 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 202 W. Jefferson St., Morris, IL 60450. Pastor Patrick Lohse will officiate. The family will have a time to greet visitors at the church, beginning at 10:30 a.m. until time of the service. The burial with military honors provided by the Morris Color Guard will be private. Memorial donations can be made to Under His Wings Ministry, Ottawa, IL(underhiswingstoday.com), which is devoted to helping at-risk, under-resourced pregnant women and Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice.
