John F. Lewis Born: Feb. 13, 1931; In St. Paul, MN Died: Feb. 22, 2014; In Joliet, IL John "Jack" F. Lewis, age 83, of Morris, IL, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet. Born February 13, 1931 in St. Paul, Minnesota, he was the son of the late John and Alta (Taylor) Lewis. Jack served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. On October 4, 1953 he married Beverly Neth. Jack was a legendary marksman and hunter. Throughout the years he pursued his passion of racing anything that had a motor. He designed, built and raced Vampire Boats. He also co-founded the Great Lakes Boat Club. When he no longer raced boats, he refereed worldwide for the Formula One Racing Association. He was also a volunteer Fireman for the Minooka Fire Department. Jack built go-karts, and maintained the track at Jules Raceway for several years. He retired from Brown and Lambrecht as a welder. His hobbies included gardening, building stage coaches and covered wagons. Jack loved spending time with his family and friends. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Beverly (Neth); and one son, Lance Lewis of Morris. Two grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Bankowski of Morris, and Kristin (Fianc? Eric Colognesi) Lewis of Braidwood. Three great grandchildren, Zachary, Brooklyn and Sylas Bankowski. Two sisters, Shirley (Ed) Berard of Apache Junction, AZ and Geri Lanche of Joliet, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Proceeding in death by one son, Roger; his parents; and two brothers, Gene and Erv Lewis; and one sister, Audrey Kennedy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 26, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the U. C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home, located at 301 West Washington Street in Morris. A Celebration of Jack 's life will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 11:00 am at the U. C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin Yandell of New Community Christian Church officiating. Folding and presentation of the flag will be conducted by the Morris Color Guard. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Preferred memorials may be made in Jack 's name to Joliet Area Community Hospice. Arrangements for John "Jack" Lewis have been entrusted with the U. C.
