Richard "Ralph" Barkley, 72, of Morris, passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, at Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, Illinois with his family at his bedside.
Born March 26, 1942, in Morris, Illinois, he was the son of the late Richard C. and Betty (Holbrook) Barkley.
Richard was raised and educated in Morris and graduated from Morris High School with the class of 1960. He entered the United States Marine Corp right out of high school and served with the United States Marine Corp from 1960 to 1964. Richard married Karen Swor on July 9, 1966, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He worked as a Barge Inspector Field Rep for Dravo Mchlinger Corp. After retirement, Ralph managed the American Legion Post 294 for 18 years. In his free time, Ralph enjoyed fishing, gun collecting, playing cards, and especially enjoyed his John Wayne collection. He loved his family, his grandchildren, and his wife of 48 years.
Richard is survived by his wife Karen; sons Richard T. (Kelly) Barkley of Morris and Michael D. (Jodie) Barkley of Morris; his grandchildren Justin, Jacob, Rhett, Tyler, Haley, Alec, Mikah, and Marissa; sister in-law Patti Barkley of Morris.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Barkley.
Memorials may be made in Richard's name to his family.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home. A Celebration of Richard's life will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 10:30 am at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Roy Backus of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Morris Color Guard.
