AGE: 84 • Hillsborough

Adam Bubrow, Sr., of Hillsborough, N.J., passed away peacefully at home on July 16, 2014, surrounded by family. The cause of death was complications resulting from a recent stroke. He was 84 years old. Born and raised in Somerset, N.J., he was the youngest of John and Nina Bubrow's ten children. After attending Franklin Township grammar schools, he graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1947. He entered the United States Army in 1951. After two years of Korean War service, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. In 1953 he married the former Nellie Vorbosky, whom he courted before entering the service. While working and raising a family, he attended school in the evenings under the G.I. Bill, first at United Radio and Television Institute in Newark, N.J., and then at Rutgers University. For more than 20 years until his retirement in 2000, he was proprietor of Adam's TV and Appliance Center in Middlesex, N.J. He remained active in many community organizations over the years. He served as Commander of the Jensen-Scalzone American Legion Post in Somerset, Referee of the New Brunswick Touchdown Club (an organization supporting Rutgers University football), and President of the Polish American Cultural Endeavors Association. His other affiliations included the Thomas J. Kavanaugh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Manville, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Manville, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Somerset. He was also a long-time parishioner at St. Joseph's Church in Hillsborough, N.J. His hobbies included gardening and fishing, and he was a long-time season-ticket holder for Rutgers University and New York Giants football.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Nellie Vorbosky; his three children: Linda Pierson of Skillman, N.J., Adam Bubrow, Jr., of New York, N.Y., and Keith Bubrow of Mendham, N.J.; and one granddaughter, Kristen Pierson of Skillman, N.J.
