AGE: 85 • Metuchen

Arthur R. Braga, 85, of Metuchen passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 3, 2014. Born in Taunton, MA, he lived in Metuchen for 55 years. Mr. Braga graduated from New York University Hartnett School of Music. He served in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Braga established the Music and Drama programs at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen where he taught for 43 years positively influencing countless students. Mr. Braga, "Art," was also known throughout the community as owner of American Music Studio in Fords where he taught and sold musical merchandise for 56 years. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, Metuchen.

Mr. Braga is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie (Scott) Braga; his five children, Suzann Fallon (Don) of Hightstown, Damian Braga (Kris) of Long Valley, Adrienne Braga Reuther of West Monroe, LA, Lexy Braga Anderson of Metuchen, Milissa Kanavy (Len) of Menlo Park, CA; nine grandchildren and a great grandchild. Mr. Braga is also survived by a brother, Robert and his wife Ruth of New Castle, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 10:15 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, Metuchen. Interment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Family and friends may call on Thursday, March 6, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue (Rt. 27) Metuchen. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Arthur's memory may be made to the Music and Drama Departments at St. Joseph High School, 145 Plainfield Ave., Metuchen, NJ 08840.
