Monroe Township, formerly of Highland Park

August DeSantis, Jr., died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at The Elms, Cranbury. Born in Highland Park, he lived there most of his life until moving to Monroe Township 7 years ago.

Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was a blacksmith for Johns-Manville, North Brunswick, where he worked for 30 years. He also was a maintenance person at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. A US Army veteran, he served as a sergeant during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1960. Mr. DeSantis was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle RC Church, Highland Park. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dolores Anthony DeSantis; a son August DeSantis III and his wife Debra of New Brunswick; a daughter, Darlene Sawyer and her husband Thomas of Old Bridge; 2 brothers, Dominick DeSantis of Old Bridge, and Raymond DeSantis of Edison; a sister, Amalia Ziagos of Highland Park; and 2 grandchildren, August IV and Dana DeSantis.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 9:15 AM at The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul the Apostle RC Church, Highland Park. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, 2-4 & 6-8 PM. For directions, please visit www.brunswickmemorialhome.com.
