Chester S. Makowski

Chester S. Makowski died Monday, February 24, 2014 at home. He was 88. Born in Detroit, MI., he resided in Linden, graduating from Linden High School. He then resided in Old Bridge before moving to and calling Spotswood home for over 60 years.
He worked at Permacel Tape for many years, then was employed as a Police Officer for the Middlesex County Park Police Department, retiring in 1980 as Sergeant. He was an Army veteran of WWII, having served as a Medical Technician/American Graves Registration Command. A 4th Degree Member of the Spotswood Knights of Columbus #4907, he was a past Grand Knight. He was a member and past president of the Police Benevolent Association #156 and served as past President. He was a member of the Middlesex County Bowling Association, and the Knights of Columbus Men's Bowling League where he served as past President and Secretary for both organizations.
He was a member of the Spotswood Men's Softball League, a member and past President of the Spotswood Democratic Club, and the Spotswood Polish American Club. He was an avid Mets and Giants fan, and loved to fish. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception RC Church, Spotswood.
He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Jenny Makowski, and by a sister Violet and her husband Stanley Potts. Surviving are his wife of over 65 years, Helen Smith Makowski; his children, Chester and his wife Catherine Makowski of Little Egg Harbor, Celeste Champion of North Brunswick, Andrew Makowski of Spotswood, Patricia Gusz of Elmwood Park, Joan and her husband Joseph Teahl of Old Bridge, Maureen and her husband Massimo Pranio of North Brunswick; a brother, Stanley F. and his wife Elaine Makowski of South River; three grandchildren, Kenneth, David and Michael Makowski; two step grandchildren, Joseph and Jacqueline Teahl; three great grandchildren, Abby, Eva Marie and Nicholas; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:15 AM in the Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by a 10:15 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the
