AGE: 85 • South River

Dominick V. Bongiovi age 85 of South River passed away Saturday May 17, 2014 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy with his loving family at his side. Born in New Brunswick he has resided in South River for the past 63 years. Mr. Bongiovi was the founder and owner of South River Glass since 1973 and served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Witek, EDD 848 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors Association, John Basilone Chapter of Sons of Italy and St Sebastian's Catholic War Veterans. Dominick was a life member of Musicians Local 204, had played with the Saint Mary's Band in New Brunswick from 1940 through 1970, was a member of South River Knights of Columbus Council 3001 and was a communicant of Saint Stephen Protomartyr R. C. Church in South River.

He is predeceased by his granddaughter Angela M. Bongiovi in 2012, and his parents Louis and Marion Saladino Bongiovi. Surviving are his wife of 63 years Kathryn Roselli Bongiovi, his sons and their wives Louis & Patricia and Dominick & Patricia all of South River, his grandchildren Trieste Amato and her husband Salvatore, Louis Bongiovi, Dominick Bongiovi and his wife Caitlin and Amanda Bongiovi, his great grandchildren Ava and Salvatore Amato, his sister Carmella Recine of Piscataway and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:30am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Avenue South River followed by a 10am mass at St Stephen Protomartyr R. C. Church in South River with burial and with military honors to follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday from 5pm to 9pm. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations in Dominick's name be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or New Jersey Sharing Network.
