Duke Alan Gaiser Obituary
Duke Alan Gaiser

AGE: 65 • Wall Township

Duke Gaiser, 65, of Flemington, NJ, passed away on June 5th after a heroically fought battle with lung disease. His beloved wife, Cheryl (nee Colella), was by his side, as was his granddaughter, Nina Amicone, of Freehold, NJ.

Duke was born on November 11, 1948 in Parsons, Kansas. At a young age, Duke discovered his lifelong love for music and mastered 27 instruments. While in high school he formed his band, "The Other Five" which toured throughout Kansas and Oklahoma and was honored to perform on the local TV station. One of his proudest moments was competing in "Battle of the Bands" and placing second to the now famous "Chicago."

Duke received his Associates Degree in Music from Labette Community College and then proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969 through 1973. SGT Gaiser was with the 3rd MOB, 3rd CCG and 1963 Comm. Group during the Vietnam War. After he completed his service, he began his career at Pacific Telephone in San Francisco, California. He then relocated to New Jersey with AT&T. He had an esteemed lifelong career with AT&T, Lucent and then IBM, where he retired after more than 35 years of service. Once retired, Duke looked forward to fishing any river or lake he could find as well as woodworking and travelling with his beloved wife.

Duke met this love of his life, Cheryl, while working at AT&T. They married in 1995 and, until recently, resided in Flemington, New Jersey. Duke prided himself as being a devoted, loyal and loving husband. He and his wife worshipped each other and were lucky enough to truly know what it was to be and feel loved. Although married for an all too brief nineteen years, their love seemed endless and timeless to all who knew them.

Duke was an adoring father to Karen Amicone (Omaha, Nebraska) and to his son-in-law Rex Amicone (Las Vegas, NV); loving grandfather to Nina Amicone (Freehold, NJ), Adrianna Amicone (Las Vegas, NV) and David Allan Gaiser (NY); brother to Christian Gaiser (Parsons, KS). He will also be sadly missed by his step mother Maxine Gaiser (Parsons, KS); Aunt Ruth Gaiser (Parsons, KS); step sisters Linda Kennedy, Sandy Macdonald and Brenda Sanford. Duke considered himself to be blessed by the love of his sister-in-law Deborah Heuer (married to Brian, Wall, NJ), nephews Brian Heuer (married to Leigh, New Milford, NJ) and Keith Heuer (married to Dannielle, Spring Lake Heights, NJ) and niece, Kimberley (married to Michael, Brick, NJ). Duke was predeceased by his son, Kevin, whom he loved to his bones. They shared a love of fishing, car racing and living life to the fullest. Duke taught his children by example to live a life of respect, honesty, kindness, honor and goodness. Duke was also predeceased by his mother, Juanita Gaiser, his father, Fred Gaiser, Grandmother Amy Opal Brooks, and his Uncle Grover Gaiser - all of Parsons, Kansas.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 12, at 9:30 AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, 90 Union Avenue, Manasquan, NJ. Entombment will follow in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the VFW Post #15031, Flemington, NJ.
