Felix (Phil) E. Massaro, of Milltown, beloved husband of Theresa N. Massaro, passed on Saturday, July 27. 2013 at Sunrise Assistant Living in East Brunswick. He was 89. Born in New York City, he was raised in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Massaro moved to Staten Island in 1963, with his wife, the former Theresa Nardi Massaro. In 1973 the couple settled in Milltown. Mr. Massaro received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and his Masters in Industrial Engineering form New York University. He was a member of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges; Pie Tau Sigma and Tau Beta Pi, national honorary engineering fraternities and a licensed professional engineer. He was a member of the American Institute of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, the New Jersey Board of Professional Engineers and the American Legion Post 25 in Milltown. During his professional career, he was employed by AMF, Brooklyn, NY Engineers Inc., Newark NJ, Conductores Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, and ITAC in NYC. During his retirement years, he worked as a substitute teacher. Mr. Massaro was a World War II veteran. He was honorably discharged as 1st Lt from the US Army Air Corp, and served as a B-24 Pilot with the 8th Army Air Force. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and the US Air Medal. An avid golfer, while residing on Staten Island, he was a member of Richmond County Country Club. In Mexico, a member of Valle Alto Country Club, Monterrey and El Cid Golf & Country Club, Mazatlan. While residing in Milltown, he enjoyed golf at Tamarack Golf Course, East Brunswick, and Rutgers University Golf Course, Piscataway.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Theresa (Nardi) Massaro, his sister-in-laws Mary Massaro of Columbus, NJ and Rose Ruocco of Manhattan; his brother-in-law Edward Johnsen of Monroe Twp; several nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by his brother John A. Massaro, Doryee Rotolo and Ann Johnsen.
A Blessing will be held Wednesday, 11:00 am, at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St-at Riva Ave., Milltown. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call on Wednesday from 9:00 till 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Milltown Rescue Squad of the American Legion Post 25 in Milltown.
