AGE: 83 • South Brunswick

George August Gunia entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 26, 2014 with his family by his side at St. Peters Hospital in New Brunswick, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 83. Born in New Brunswick, and raised in South River, he resided in East Brunswick until moving to South Brunswick in 1995. George was a graduate of Middlesex County Vocational School machine shop. He served his apprenticeship at Hercules Powder Company and later joined E I DuPont as a first class millwright. He retired from DuPont in 1983 after 27 years of service, and then returned as a precious metals representative for the next 4 years. He also held a real-estate license for 30 years with Berg Realtor and Century 21. George was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps where he served his country from 1951-1953.

He was the son of the late Julia Pesetsky and August Gunia. He was predeceased by his sister, Gloria Weingart in June of 2014. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara; two sons, Daniel and his wife Diana of Georgia, George and his wife Diane of East Brunswick, and his daughter, Darlene Lisowski of Hillsborough; a brother, Eugene and his wife Alice of Florida. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and very dear friends. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, John and Joseph Lisowski, Sarah and Kevin Gunia, and Gina and Eric Gunia.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, 9:30 AM, at The Brunswick Memorial Home, 454 Cranbury road, East Brunswick, followed by an interment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
