Gerald E. "Gerry" McCarthy

AGE: 71 • Sayreville

Gerald E. "Gerry" McCarthy, age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home. Born in Sayreville he has resided here until moving to Lakewood in 2000 then to Brick in 2012. Before his retirement in 2001 he was employed by E. I. Du Pont Photo Products in Parlin for 37 years retiring as a employee training manager and was a member of the Du Pont 10 and 25 year clubs. Mr. McCarthy was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Sayreville American Legion Post 211. Gerry was an avid gardener and golfer and a very skilled carpenter. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville.

He is predeceased by his son, Joseph McCarthy in 1996 and his parents, Joseph & Sophie McCarthy. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Janice Dankiw McCarthy; his daughter and her husband, Laura & Thomas Murtha of Brick; his granddaughter, Kelly Murtha, and his brothers, Thomas McCarthy and Michael McCarthy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 8:30am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin followed by a 9am Mass at Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville with burial to follow at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Friday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Members of Sayreville American Legion Post 211 will hold military services Friday 7:15pm at the funeral home. The family has requested that donations in Gerry's name be made to Meridian Health Foundation, 1345 Campus Parkway, Suite A2, Neptune, N.J. 07753. Letters of condolence may be sent to the family at
