Harry V. Naismyth, 88, died March 7, 2013. Harry was born in Staten Island, New York and formerly of Somerville for many years before moving to New Hope in 1992. He was employed as a technician for New Jersey Bell Telephone in Bridgewater for over 43 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Pop Kugler Somerset Wheelmen bicycling club and was the National Junior Cycling Champion for 1940. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard during WWII and served his country heroically as a member of the Rescue Flotilla during the D-Day invasion on June 6th, 1944. After the war, he continued to ride competitively and won the Central States Men's Senior Championship in 1946. He is an inductee of the Somerville High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Harry was ex-chief and charter member of the Country Hills Volunteer Fire Company in Bridgewater. His hobbies included piloting private aircraft, being on the water, serving as a guide for the refurbished WWII floating Museum, Liberty Ship, John Brown and making friends wherever he went. He was a loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all.
Surviving are his devoted wife , Jeanne Naismyth, his son Scott Naismyth and his wife Robin and a daughter Sondra Bialy and her husband Greg, a sister Mary Jean Steele, grandchildren Ryan, Ashley, Katie Naismyth, Kelly Capra, David M. Bialy, and Krista Wentworth and four great grandchildren and close niece and nephews Deborah Prusik and Edward and Thomas Oliver.
Visitation will be 2-4pm Monday at the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 No. Gaston Ave. Somerville. Private interment at the New Cemetery in Somerville.
