James A Johnson

AGE: 96 • Metuchen

James A. Johnson, 96, of Metuchen, died Friday, June 06, 2014 at JFK Medical Center under the care of Haven Hospice. He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1917 and has resided in Metuchen for 90 years. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Metuchen. James was a US Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Fugel Hummer Post 65 in Metuchen. He was an Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver Recipient and formerly was the Scoutmaster at Metuchen Troop 14. He worked as an engineer for Pennsylvania Railroad for 30 years, retiring from Conrail.

James is predeceased by his wife Mary (nee Green) in 2005; his son James A. Johnson Jr.; and two sisters, Doris and Edna Johnson. He is survived by his daughter Edna Michael; 5 grandchildren, Rachel, Bryce, Stefanie, Thomas, and Amanda; and 6 great-grandchildren, Kendall, Connor, Emily, Kayla, Julia, and Nicholas.

A service will take place on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen.
