Obituary Condolences

Jill M. Reid

AGE: 66 • South Plainfield

Jill M. Reid, 66, passed away on Friday May 9, 2014 after a brief but valiant battle with breast cancer. Born in Fulton, NY, she and her husband lived in Alaska for a number of years before settling at "Longwood", the Reid family home, in South Plainfield over 30 years ago.

Jill spent many years as a stay-at-home mom. She returned to the workforce as a substitute secretary for the South Plainfield Board of Education and eventually became a full time secretary for Special Services. She was known for her efficient and professional manner while always having a warm smile for everyone.

Jill was also well known for her talents as a world class quilter. She designed quilts for several fabric companies. Her designs were published internationally and her quilts graced numerous magazine covers. Jill's handmade quilts won ribbons at many quilt shows including the prestigious Founders Award at the Vermont Quilt Festival. Her kind, open and generous manner made her quilt friends from Australia to Norway to England and throughout the United States and Canada.

Jill is survived by her loving husband, Scott Porter Reid and her son, Justin Scott Reid of South Plainfield. She also leaves her brother Jack McGraw and his wife Mary Jane along with a large family in upstate New York.

A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Woodland Ave., Scotch Plains on Thursday 5/15/14 at 10AM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in several weeks. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in her memory to Breastcancer.org. For additional information or to express condolences, please visit www.fanwoodmemorial.com.
