John Russo, 99, died on August 2, 2013 surrounded by those he loved. He was born in Raritan, NJ on May 24, 1914 to his dear parents Dominick and Maria Russo. John was a lifelong resident of Raritan. John was a Ship Purser for many Commercial Lines in private companies. He also was employed by the American Legacy Ship in New York City, US Lines. John served in the Navy for (4) years during World War II and Merchant Marines for (38) years. He was a 60 year member of the American Legion Post 280 where he recently received an award for his longtime and dedicated membership. John was a wonderful brother and uncle who had a keen sense of humor, and was kind, caring, generous, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his beloved sister, Rose Jacobs of Raritan; four nieces, Anna Maria Masler, Winnie Jo (Patrick) Fatton, Maryann (Bill) Reiter, Mary Donelon, Mary (Dennis) Stack; three nephews, Eric (Patricia) Jacobs, Alfie (Janet) Grillo, Joseph (Lynn) Grillo. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Joseph and Frank Russo, and sisters, Santa Donelon and Grace Grillo.
Viewing will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ 08869 (908-725-1887). Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2103 starting with a viewing from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Ann's Church, 45 Anderson Street, Raritan, NJ 08869. Entombment in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
