John Shpak, 92, of Fords, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home. Mr. Shpak was born in Perth Amboy and had resided in Fords for the last sixty years.
Mr. Shpak was a US Coast Guard Veteran of World War II. He was employed as a postal clerk for the Perth Amboy Post Office for forty two years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption in Perth Amboy, where he served as a trustee and also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Senior Citizens of the church. Mr. Shpak had also called bingo for the church over thirty five years, and had been a member of the American Ukrainian Veterans.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen Borsuk Shpak in 2008, his parents Joseph and Mary (Jecziszin) Shpak, two brothers Stephen and Michael Shpak, and two sisters Rose Baran and Sonia Knudson. He is survived by his sister, Helen Matis, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:30am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, Inc., 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Followed by a 10:00am mass in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption, Perth Amboy. Interment will follow in the Assumption Cemetery in Hopelawn. Visitation hours will be held Tuesday from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption, 684 Alta Vista Pl., Perth Amboy NJ. A parastas service will be held Tuesday 3:00pm at the funeral home.
