Marguerite Burton Badcock, of Hobe Sound, Florida, formerly of Tewksbury and Madison, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014. Born in Bloomfield, she grew up in Chatham, New Jersey before moving to Madison where she lived for over 30 years with her husband Ernest George and four children. She lived in Tewksbury for 20 years before retiring to Hobe Sound in 2002.
Marguerite will be fondly remembered for her passion for athletics and working with youths. Her career as a Physical Education teacher began at Dover High School following her graduation from Boston University. After marrying Ernest George Badcock, Jr, and raising their family, Marguerite worked as the Physical Education teacher at Holy Family School in Florham Park, and then St. Vincent Martyr School in Madison, where she was integral in the creation of the Physical Education Department. She was also instrumental to the design of the St. Vincent Martyr School gymnasium and founded the Girls Athletic Association.
In later years, Marguerite also taught dance and adult exercise classes in conjunction with St. Vincent's School, as well as Physical Education and Child Development at the College of St. Elizabeth. She belonged to several women's organizations, including The Questers of Tewksbury, and the Red Hat Society in Hobe Sound. Marguerite was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Ernest George Badcock.
She is survived by her children, E. George and his wife Kathleen, John, Mark and Tracy; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister Beverly Annetts and sister-in-law Hazel "Sis" Badcock.
