Dr. Maxwell Borow, 87, died September 7, 2013. Dr. Borow was raised in Bound Brook, NJ and formerly of Martinsville before moving to Tewksbury in 1991. He graduated from the University of North Caroling in 1945 with a B.S. and then from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1949. Dr. Borow established his successful private practice as a vascular and general surgeon practicing at Somerset Medical Center, St. Peters University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He was Chief of Surgery and Vascular Surgery at Somerset Medical Center. Dr. Borow was instrumental in the identification of mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving as Lieutenant during the Korean War. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of Temple Beth-El in Hillsborough. He enjoyed reading, sailing, photography and especially traveling with his family. He will be sadly missed by all.
He is predeceased by his late brother Dr. Edward Borow. Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Carolyn Basilone Borow, his daughters Barbara Borow- Stephens, Elizabeth Borow, Hilary Borow and Leslie Borow, step-children, Michele Santora, Jim Foran, Dave Foran and Kathleen Girton and 14 grandchildren and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be 11am Monday at Temple Beth-El, 67 Route 206, Hillsborough. Interment will follow at United Orthodox Cemetery in Bridgewater. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 No. Gaston Ave. Somerville. Donations can be made to the
