Philip B. Austin, 80, of Hazlet, died Monday, June 10, 2013, in Red Bank. He was born in Sayre, PA and lived in Athens, PA, Plano, TX, Philadelphia, PA and Reading, PA before moving to Hazlet in 1964. Philip was a graduate of Penn State University class of 1955. Philip joined the U.S. Navy serving for 2 years 1955 to 1957. He returned to work for the U.S. Census Bureau, then as Editor for the Tribune in Pa. and The News in Pa. later working for the News Tribune and Home News, East Brunswick until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of the Penn State Alumni Association.
Surviving are his daughter, Roberta Giannetti and her partner Joe Van Orden of Union Beach; daughter & son-in-law, Robin and Michael Hagmann of Middletown; sons, Robert Giannetti and his partner Deborah Finden of Metuchen, and John Giannetti of Hazlet; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Frace and her husband of Phoenix, AZ, and Phyllis and Mark Klein of Howell; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
Philip was preceded in death by first wife, Louise Austin (1990); his second wife, Eugenia Austin (2009); daughter, Stefanie Austin (1997) and son, Philip H. Austin II (2006).
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday evening at the funeral home. Cremation will be private. Contributions may be made to the
