Ronald E. Keaveney, retired East Brunswick Police Officer died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division at the age of 59. Born in Newark, Ron resided in South River before moving to Monroe Township 26 years ago. A 1971 graduate of South River High School, he earned his B.S. in Physical Science from Glassboro State College.

Ron joined the East Brunswick Police Department in 1981, and retired in 2006 as a Detective after 25 years of service. He also taught at the Middlesex County Police Academy. Prior to his service with the Police Department, he was a nuclear medicine technologist and taught nuclear medicine at JFK Medical Center. He also taught environmental science at Middlesex County College. Ron was a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh and the Shillelagh Pipes and Drums in Old Bridge and a charter member of the EBPD bagpipers. He was also an honorary member of the Fighting 69th Brigade, New York City. Musically gifted, Ron played the bagpipes and guitar, and performed in local pubs with his band, Chris & Ron for many years.

Predeceased by his mother, Anna Mae Johnson Keaveney, surviving are his loving wife of 24 years, Erin Maher Keaveney; a son, Dennis, and a daughter Molly, both at home; his father, Edward of South River, and 2 sisters, Elaine Uzar and Patricia Keaveney, both of South River.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30AM in The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick followed by a 10:15AM Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Spotswood. Private cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 PM.
