AGE: 87 • Avenel

Steve Klc, 87, of Avenel, passed peacefully in his sleep at his home on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born and raised in Perth Amboy, where he had resided, until moving to Avenel in 1957. He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School Class of 1943 and received his accounting degree from Rutgers University. He served in the U.S. Army and was a proud veteran of WW II. Steve was an accountant, office manager and member of the board of directors for Garden State Hospitalization Plan in Perth Amboy for 46 years, before retiring in 1992. He had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Perth Amboy for the past 75 years. He served as church treasurer for over 26 years and was a trustee, deacon and elder at the church and past president of the Everyman's Bible Class. He was a Sunday School teacher, Youth Advisor, and served on the Boy Scout Committee. He was a member of the Woodbridge B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 2116 for the past 42 years, where he had served as trustee and chaplain for 10 years. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of the Lafayette Lodge #27 in Rahway for 60 years and was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Central NJ. He was also a member of the Avenel VFW Post #7164. Steve loved his church and country, and cherished his home and family. He enjoyed bowling and basketball and was an original charter member of the Jeffrie Pirates Athletic Club in Perth Amboy.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Stephanie (Yanek) Klc and his three brothers, John, George and Michael and his two sisters, Amelia "Millie" Newman and Katherine Konkus. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Jean L. (Hadden) Klc; his beloved son, Steve Klc and his wife, Colleen Apte of Arlington, VA and his two beloved daughters, Barbara Klc of Cherry Hill and Nancie Bullen of Monmouth Junction, and his three loving grandchildren, Kelly Yuhas, Corey Yuhas and Andria Bullen. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Curtis of Grand Junction, CO, as well as by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords, NJ 08863, followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Service at the First Presbyterian Church of Perth Amboy. Entombment will follow at the Clover Leaf Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. The following organizations will meet to pay respects and hold services at the funeral home on Friday, the Masons at 6 pm, the deacons, trustees, elders and members of the First Presbyterian Church of Perth Amboy at 6:30 pm and the Elks at 7:15 pm.
