Thomas Patrick Sheehy, 90, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving and caring family. Born in Long Island City, NY to the late John and Beatrice Sheehy, he moved to Bound Brook in 1951 and resided in Middlesex since 1953. Thomas served proudly in the U.S. Army as Corporal during WWII from 1943 to 1946 and was a chemist for Asarco Co. in South Plainfield for 32 years before retiring in 1983. Thomas was a member of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Middlesex, the American Chemical Society for 60 years and enjoyed building and fixing electronic devices. He also enjoyed reading, writing poetry and loved music. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Sister Mary Albert Sheehy and Catherine Sheehy. Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy F. Gebhardt Sheehy; his loving children, Thomas M. Sheehy and wife Colleen and their children, Michael and Claire of Bound Brook, Dr. James B. Sheehy and wife Dale and their daughter, Kaitlyn of Leonardtown, MD, Beth Ann Walsh and husband Lance and their sons, Ian and Alex of Wolcott, CT and Claire M. Butera and husband Joseph and their daughters, Jennifer and Melissa of Franklin Park, and his caring brother, John J. Sheehy and wife Joan of Farmington, CT.
Funeral service will begin 9:30 am, Monday at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Rd., Middlesex followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, 600 Harris Ave., Middlesex. Interment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Visitation hours will be held Sunday from 3-6pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Community Care Hospice, 110 West End Avenue, Somerville, New Jersey 08876.
