Matthew H. Grimmett, III, M.D.

Matthew Hill Grimmett was born in McMinnville, TN, the son of the late Matthew Hill Grimmett, Jr. and Willie Wray Mauzy. He graduated from McMinnville High School, Vanderbilt University, and Duke University School of Medicine. He interned at Johns Hopkins Hospital in internal medicine. During World War II, he served in the US Navy and was assigned to the 1st Marine Division during operations in the Pacific. Following his discharge from the Navy, Dr. Grimmett returned to Duke Medical School and completed a residency in pediatrics which he practiced for 17 years in Concord and Kannapolis, NC. Due to a service related disability, he returned to Duke Medical School and completed a residency in radiology, which he practiced in Concord and Shallotte, NC, and Loris, SC, until his retirement in 1989.
Dr. Grimmett is survived by his wife of 70 years, Martha, a son, Jack (Joan) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and daughter Ellen Mullen (Jim) of Salisbury, NC, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the .
