SPARTA -- Charles G. Morrell Jr., 94, of Sparta, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born in Saginaw, Mich., and graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science degree in engineering. He worked as an engineer at Alcoa, Boeing and the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill., before joining Picatinny Arsenal and retiring in 1993 at the age of 73. Charles was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta and the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara J. Morrell. He is survived by his devoted children, Greg Moroni and his wife, Diane, Donna Bordwell and her husband, Bill, Patrice Kane and her husband, Thomas, and Denise Morrell and her companion, Richard. He was also blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren, Kristin, Keith, Kara, Kevin, Brian, Douglas, Thomas and JJ. Friends may call Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the Sparta First Presbyterian Church, 32 Main St., Sparta, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. The Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, is in charge of arrangements.
