FRANKFORD - Donald T. Spicer, 82, of Augusta, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Newton Medical Center. Born in East Orange, Mr. Spicer was raised in the Ironbound section of Newark and moved to Sussex County 27 years ago with his family, residing in Hampton, then Fredon, and most recently Augusta. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, as well as a wire drawer for Driver Harris Company in Harrison. Mr. Spicer also was a cab driver for the family business D.A.D.S Taxi and Limo in Newton for 20 plus years. He will be remembered as "POP" throughout Sussex County, and for his avid bird watching skills. The son of the late Harry and Agnes Spicer, Mr. Spicer also was predeceased by his wife, Rosemarie Spicer, in 1977, and his brother, Harry Spicer Jr. He is survived by his older brother, Joe Spicer; his two sons, Glenn Spicer and wife, Doragail, of Augusta, and Frank Spicer, of Augusta; one daughter, Donna Meglio and husband, Joseph Meglio, of Lackawaxen, Pa.; his grandchildren, Ashley, Serinna, Desirre and Gavin Spicer, Frank Jr. and Alexandra Spicer, and Frank, Marc and Melinda Meglio; and his great-grandchildren, Joshua, Isaiah and Alexa. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
