Obituary Condolences

CARY, N.C. - Eric Richard Schumann, 55, of Cary, N.C., formerly of Waterloo Village, in Byram Township, N.J., passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at his home in Cary.

Eric was born in 1957 in Newton, N.J., to the late Frederick John Schumann and Irma Ann Nagy Schumann. He was a graduate of the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J., and attended Case Western Reserve University. Eric was a six-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served on Guam for four years as an electronics technician. After leaving the Navy, Eric earned his BSEE degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and then his Master in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University, with a major in antenna technology and electromagnetic compatibility. Eric was employed with IBM for more than 17 years.

Eric enjoyed being physically active and being out in nature - hiking and biking were his favorites. He loved the Jersey shore and the Wrightsville Beach, N.C., area and grew to also love the mountains, especially the area around Blowing Rock, N.C. Eric had a huge network of friends, family and colleagues and had a great love for animals.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick John Schumann and Irma Ann Nagy Schumann, and his beloved Aunt "Sis" Lillian E. Schumann.

He is survived by his companion, Virginia "Ginny" Fox, of Durham, N.C.; sister, Anne Schumann, of Manhattan, N.Y.; brothers, Jack Schumann and wife, Mary Beth, of Mountain Lakes, N.J., and Frederick Joseph Schumann and wife, Cindy, of Roxbury, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home, 33-31 Main St., Netcong. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery. Messages of condolences may be sent to (www.NetcongFuneral.com).
