OGDENSBURG -- Philomena Rose Nielson, 88, of Ogdensburg, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Newton Medical Center.

Born in Dover, Mrs. Nielson lived in Mine Hill, Randolph and Newton before moving to Ogdensburg in 2004. She was a mail clerk for the United States Post Office in Dover and Paterson then was a mail clerk at Picatinny Arsenal before her retirement. Mrs. Nielson loved to read and also loved pets. She enjoyed cooking for her family and playing family card games, especially Bingo.

The daughter of the late Giovani and Assinta Buono, Mrs. Nielson was the last of 14 children. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Otto John Nielson Sr., and her second husband, Robert Nielson. Mrs. Nielson is survived by her son, John Nielson Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Denise Byron, of Hardwick; her daughter, Linda Cernecaro, and her son-in-law, Bruce Sr., of Ogdensburg; her grandchildren, Jennifer, John III, Kenny, Bruce Jr., Chris and Whitney; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at St. Thomas of Aquin Church, 53 Kennedy Ave., Ogdensburg. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Mausoleum in Newton. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
