Virgil "Rex" Yeager, 81, died at home Wednesday, May 7 in Burlington, KY surrounded by family. Rex was known for his devotion to his family and his lifelong commitment to Christ. Rex married his hometown sweetheart in 1955 after graduating from Mountain State College and serving as an Army officer in Korea during the war. Rex and Donna left their hometown of New Martinsville, WV to raise their family in Northern Kentucky. Rex was an accountant and later became a district comptroller at Crous-Hinds/Cooper Industries. Rex was an active member of Florence Christian Church and volunteered as the church treasurer for years. He also served as a deacon, elder, board member, Sunday School teacher, and loved singing in the choir! Rex not only valued his family but also his extended family in Kentucky and West Virginia. He kept in close contact with all family members throughout his life. His hometown friends, neighbors, coworkers, army buddies, and church acquaintances all became lifelong connections. Rex simply did not known a stranger. Rex was a notary public, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Northern Kentucky Business Association. In 1986, Rex was promoted and transferred to Bath, Maine until he retired in 1992. Rex and Donna embraced the move as an opportunity to join a new church, meet new friends, and visit all the lighthouses of Maine. Rex always said when he lived in Kentucky that he was going to move "someplace warmer" when he retired. However, after living in Maine for six years when he retired, Kentucky was someplace warmer. In retirement Rex and Donna returned to Northern Kentucky and Florence Christian Church. Rex resumed his previous activities at Florence Christian Church and volunteered one day a week in the church office. Rex lost his life partner on Thanksgiving Day 2011 and has been looking forward to the day when they would reunite. Rex was the son of John R. Yeager and Marjorie Salisberry Yeager. Rex is survived by Son Brent Samuel Yeager and Wife Karen of Florence, Daughter Karen Edwards and Husband Richard of Dry Ridge, Daughter Cynthia Tucker and Husband Fred of Walton, 8 Grandchildren Brent Jr., Brandy, Brian, Bonnie, Richard, Ian, Brandi, and Ashley, and 11 Great Grandchildren.
