George R. Ensign, age 71, passed away on May 21, 2014, at the Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy, Illinois.
He was born on October 15, 1942 to Rolland C. and Carrie J. Ensign, at Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, Illinois. His formative years were spent in McHenry, Illinois, and later on in Harvard, Illinois. In 1960, he graduated from Harvard High School. In 1969, George volunteered for service in the United States Army. George was a paid up for life member of the American Legion Post 265 in Harvard, Illinois.
He was employed in the manufacturing and hospitality industries. George enjoyed music, and was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, and White Sox.
Declining health required his admission to the Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy, in 2005, where he resided until his passing.
He is survived by his mother, Carrie J. Ensign; brother, Thomas E. Ensign, Sr.,; daughter, Tamara K. Williams; grandson, Ken (Lachel) Williams, Jr.; and two great grandchildren, Ivory Martha Dickman-Williams, and Kal-El Norman Williams; a nephew, Thomas E. Ensign, Jr; grand niece, Kaylyn Ensign; and grandnephew, Kaydan Ensign.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rolland C. Ensign; brother, James L. Ensign; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation was at 10:00 am and services at 11:00 am on May 29, 2014 at the Illinois Veterans Home, 1707 N. 12th Street, Quincy, IL. Interment will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL, at a later date.
