James I. McAndrews Obituary
James I. McAndrews Born: Sept. 6, 1919; In McHenry Died: March 15, 2014; In Bull Valley James I. McAndrews, age 94, of Bull Valley, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Born September 6, 1919 to Earl F. and Gladys (Kinney) McAndrews, he graduated with the McHenry High School Class of 1937. After graduation, he worked for a time at the gas company in Chicago before being drafted in October, 1941, into the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served as a ranger with Patton 's Third Army, 738th Field Artillery, and was awarded a Bronze Star. After his military service, Jim chose to attend barber school in Chicago, a profession he would enjoy for 60 years working from his barber shop on the west side of McHenry, retiring at the age of 90. He married Clara Trzebiatowski on May 7, 1949 at St. Adalbert Church in Rosholt, WI. He was instrumental in obtaining the charter to begin V.F.W. Post 4600 in McHenry, where he was a lifetime member. He also was a member of American Legion Post 491. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in McHenry, where he also served as a lector, usher, and taught CCD classes. For a time, he was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1288. He was an advocate and mentor to many and was? respected and admired by the people who were fortunate to know Jim. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Clara; five children, Patrick (Mary Lou) McAndrews, Thomas (Patti) McAndrews, John (Sherry) McAndrews, Anthony (Krystyna Adamczak) McAndrews, and Colleen (Jon) Wing; grandchildren, Michael McAndrews, Patrick McAndrews, Justin (Hilary) McAndrews, John McAndrews, Ellen Wing, Erin Wing, Kelsa McAndrews, and Julia McAndrews; his sister, Kathryn (the late Wilbur) Pape; many nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Lori. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Joseph (the late Joanne) McAndrews. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, Il 60050. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at St. Patrick 's Catholic Church, 3500 Washington, McHenry, IL. Inurnment will be private.
