Joseph J. Berra

Joseph J. Berra, age 90, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine, three daughters and their husbands: Louise (Michael) Kraft, Cathy (Tom) Mueller, Julie (Scott) Pappas; seven grandchildren: Lauren (Chris) Conklin, Brian (Beth) Kraft, Luke (Jacqueline) Mueller, Scott (Kelli Duffy) Mueller, Tommy Mueller, Jason (Caitlin) Pappas and Brandon Pappas; and three great grandchildren: Marion Mueller, Isabella Kraft and Brooklyn Duffy Mueller. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

A combat veteran of WWII who received the Bronze Star, he served with the 101st Airborne Division at Normandy, and also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He belonged to the VFW and the American Legion and recently participated in a WWII Veteran Honor Flight to Washington DC. Joe retired from Western Electric after 28 years as an engineer and was active in the Pioneer Club. He served as an usher at St. Cecelia church and volunteered at the greenhouse at the Mt. Prospect Park District. Joe exemplified the love and commitment of marriage with his tender care of Lorraine.

Visitation will be held Monday, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Friends and family will gather Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral mass 10:00 am at St. Cecilia Church, 700 S. Meier Road, Mt. Prospect, IL 60056.
