Alfred Rutkin, of Merrillville, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josie; two daughters: Patricia (John) Tompi of Valparaiso and Jean (Marty) Chelich of Hobart; seven grandchildren: Alexandra, Amanda, and Addison Tompi, Julie (Alex) Dearing, Matthew, Michael, and Carrie Chelich; two great grandchildren: Austin and Tyler Dearing; sister, Gen (late John) Meriscko of Demotte; sister-in-law, Teresa Rutkin of Crown Point; many nieces and nephews; and the very dear Ignarski and Reardon families. Preceded in death by brother, Edwin Rutkin. Alfred was a retired Industrial Engineer from LTV Steel Co. for 38 years. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran and was a Navigator. Alfred was a graduate of Emerson High School and received his B.S. Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington. He was a member of the Silver Bell Club, PNA Lodge #2365, American Legion Post #207, Phi Ka Fraternity, and SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (6360 Broadway, Merrillville) Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. (Silver Bell service 5:00 p.m.; Legion service 5:30 p.m.). Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Pruzin Brothers Chapel with Rev. Joseph Vamos officiating. Cremation will follow services.
