Alfred S. Avina, age 87, of East Chicago, was received by his Lord on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. He is survived by his three children: Sandra, Susan, and Edmond; loving sister, Sally; and brother, Vincent; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and friends. Preceded in death by his parents: Jesus and Lucy Bedoy; sister, Frances; brother, Rudy; daughter, Sharon; and his loving wife, Alice. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 with a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial DIRECTLY at St. Stanislaus Church, 150th Street & Magoun Avenue, East Chicago, with Msgr. John Siekierski, officiating. Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation will be Friday, October 25, 2013 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. at the FIFE FUNERAL HOME, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 10:30 a.m. DIRECTLY at the Church. Alfred graduated from Washington High School, class of 1945 where he met the love of his life, Alice Quintanilla. They married in 1952. He retired from Inland Steel Company after 44 years of dedicated service. Alfred proudly served his country in WWII (Army). Naturally selfless, Alfred was a committed family man, dedicated to ensuring his family, friends and church (Holy Rosary) were all cared for in every possible way.
