ALLEN R. KOCHEK HOBART, IN
Allen R. Kochek, age 56, passed away at his home Friday, January 31, 2014. He was born on September 22, 1957 in Gary, IN to the late George and Victoria (Halmagy) Kochek. Allen is survived by two brothers: Robert Kochek of Hobart and Jerome (Nancy) Kochek of Farmers Branch, TX; and one sister, Kathleen (Joe) Zweig of Valparaiso/Phoenix AZ. Preceded in death by his canine companion of 13 years, Duchess. Allen was a graduate of Indiana University, Lew Wallace High School where he ran cross country, and St. Joseph's Grade School. He was a member of the First Church in Hobart. Allen lived his dream in Hawaii from 1981-1997. He worked for U.S. Steel and was a substitute teacher for area high schools. Allen was a kind and gentle soul who loved music, playing guitar and gardening. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball and was an avid Chicago White Sox, Bears and Bulls fan. He enjoyed cooking and eating with family and friends. Allen loved to read, write, and discuss all sorts of topics and was passionate about his beliefs and the injustices of the world. One of his main goals in life was to leave the planet a better place than he found it. And he did. Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
