Aussie Rodgers was born on August 24, 1947 in Columbus, GA to Lena Belle Scott (Rodgers) and Joseph Rodgers, Sr. Aussie was their third child of five. In his early years, Aussie was a member of St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church in East Chicago, IN. He attended elementary and high school in East Chicago and graduated from Roosevelt HS in 1965. Aussie went to Indiana University Bloomington, where he would meet his first wife and mother of his children. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. Aussie worked for Standard Oil, Pillsbury (Burger King) Corporation, where he would later earn the position of Vice President of Human Resources. After leaving Burger King, Aussie went into business for himself at Vista Travel Agency. He was currently working as a Human Resource Manager for Jacob's Engineering. Aussie had a distinguished career in Human Resources and used his expertise to mentor others. He loved to travel and lived many places because of his jobs before moving to Anaheim Hills, CA in 1989. Aussie leaves his wife, Verdia (Bean) Rodgers of Anaheim Hills, CA; children: Stacey Yvette (Donald) Bogan of Indianapolis, IN and Aussie Kevin (Shizuko) Rodgers of Covington, LA; grandchildren: Jared, Nathan and Ethan Rodgers, and Jason and Joseph Jones, Jr.; as well as four great grandchildren; siblings: Joseph Rodgers Jr. of Merrillville, IN, Delores (Murray) Harvey of Jackson, NJ, Barbara (Larry) Stephens of Milwaukee, WI and Dwayne Rodgers of Lafayette, IN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A closed casket funeral service will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion church, 4200 Alder Street, East Chicago, IN with Rev. George W.C. Walker officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Park, Hobart. Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2014 at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Hinton & Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
