BERNARD "BERNIE" VANCE (VACENDAK) Bernie Vance, born June 13, 1939, passed away on November, 14, 2013. He graduated from Hammond High School and was a member of the Varsity Swim Team. He then went on to graduate from Indiana University. Bernie established a successful business which he operated for most of this life named 'Vance Corporation'. He was known as the “Master who invented the Monster”, a Guiness Book of World Records winning tow truck that he designed and built. It was recognized for many years as the world’s most powerful tow truck, capable of lifting over 200 tons. His company was known as a legend for cleaning up train derailments throughout the Midwest. His passion outside of work was spending time with his many friends at his island on Rainy Lake in Canada. Bernie is survived by his son, Barry Vance; daughter-in-law, Laura; and his three grandchildren: Eric, Lauren, and Rebecca. A daughter, Julie, preceded him in death. Please send donations in his memory to the Wounded Warriors.
