BERTHA MILDRED STAN (NEE SWAIN) BRYAN, TX Bertha Mildred Stan (nee Swain), age 97, passed away April 23, 2014. She was born in Mantee, MS and has previously resided in Sun City Center, FL and Highland, IN. Mildred is survived by daughters: Florence (Larry) Wier, Eileen (Graham) Siegel, Elaine Krol, Pennie (Tom) Parsons; one brother, Clarence "Buck" (Exyah) Swain; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents: George and Lena Swain; husband, Steve Stan; two brothers: Frank Swain and Charlie Swain; and two sisters: Doris Page and Josie Scrivner. Mildred graduated from Mississippi University for Women with a BS in education and from Purdue University with a MA in reading. She was an elementary education teacher and reading specialist in the Highland School District from 1961 till 1985. Gravesite service at Calumet Park Cemetery, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN at 10:45 AM on Saturday, July 26, 2014. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Christ's Way Baptist Church, 3885 Copperfield Drive, Bryan, Texas 77802 or Hospice Care.
