CAMILLA W. HIGLEY Camilla W. Higley, nee Wright, age 77, a lady of wit, wisdom, faith, perception and talent, who was a piano teacher for over 47 years, passed away November 7, 2012. Camilla was born in New York City, but grew up in Birmingham, AL and St. Louis, MO. She attended Vanderbilt University and was a graduate of Northwestern University. While living in Wheaton, IL she formed the West Shore Chorale, a noted Chicago area singing group and while in Dallas, TX played the part of Eulalie Mackechnie Shinn, the mayor's wife in The Music Man, in local productions. She had a lovely alto singing voice and for many years participated in church and community choirs. Being an excellent pianist, she also gave many solo and duo piano concerts and served as accompanist for various choirs and at times played in hand-bell choirs. She loved children, especially her piano students, whom she taught not just good music and piano techniques, but the rewards of hard work and practice, the accomplishments of persistence, the discipline to strive through difficulties towards a gratifying end result. She was teacher, friend, confidant and mentor and she made her lessons fun even though they were structured to advance students capabilities. Often she would end her lessons by having students listen to classical recordings and she would tell them why those pieces were such standouts. She would often receive notes from student's parents, such as this: "Music has become such a very big part of Steve's life, thanks to you. I want to thank you so much for being such a positive influence for him. You have helped nurture him from an awkward little kid to a teen-ager growing in confidence. I also want to thank you for choosing such wonderful music for him. A big part of every morning is spent listening to him practice and it is a joy for us." She loved cats and books and was an avid reader. Over the years she formed many book clubs which have thrived. She also participated in and led various Bible study and great book groups. One of her legacies is: "She brightened people's days." Camilla is survived by her husband, John: daughters: Amanda Fieldhouse, Meredith Higley; and granddaughter, Haley Fieldhouse; and her mother, Mary Wright, age 103 of Williamsburg, VA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17 at 11:00 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Munster, 8955 Columbia Avenue. www.burnskish.com
