Carson Allen Spear, Jr., born September 13, 1943, passed away June 30, 2013 at the age of 69. Carson was one of two children born to Carson Allen Spear, Sr. and Clara Eloise Spear. His sister, Cynthia Lynn Neander, currently resides in Texas with her spouse Robert Neander and family. Carson is survived by five children: Kiersten Ternus and her spouse Duane Ternus, Martin Allen Spear and his spouse Jenny Spear, Sandra Lynn Spear, Brian Allen Spear, and Bradley Allen Spear. He also has six grandchildren: SylvieMae June Spear-Ternus, Grace Marie Spear, Cora Lynne Spear, Allen Spear, Ella Spear, and Sherilyn Spear. Upon graduating from Thornton High School, Carson enlisted in the U.S. Army where he ultimately climbed to the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). He furthered his education at Valparaiso University and the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. After his enlisted career, he spent time in the National Guard as well as the Army Reserves where, as a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, he participated in Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative commonly known as Star Wars. He retired as a Captain (O-3). He served his country for a total of 30 years having numerous tours in multiple countries including Vietnam, Kuwait, Honduras, and Iraq. Following his military career, Carson was a tradesman for the Electrical Workers' Local 134 of Chicago. Most of his time was spent working downtown at the Chicago Hilton. He was raised as a Master Mason in 1966 by his father and was a Life Member of Arcadia Lodge No. 1138 in Lansing, IL. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL. Carson's last journey will be to Pleasant View Ranch in Green Forest, AR the following week. Friends are invited to visit with the family before the service on Wednesday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Shriners Hospital or to the .
