CHARLES "DUKE" KALINA JR. VALPARAISO, IN
Charles "Duke" Kalina Jr. of Valparaiso, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Ammer) Kalina; daughters: Dawn Widener (ex-husband, Larry) of Portage, IN and Denise (Russ) Nibbe of Strawberry Plains, TN; sons: David (Megan) Kalina of Naperville, IL and Dennis (Dina) Kalina of Vestal, NY; 15 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Rick Kalina. Also survived by brothers and sisters: Richard "Dick" (ex-wife, Linda) Kalina, Christina Kalina, Marlene (Don) McClellan, Jeanette Oelberg, Paulette Woellhart, Claudette "Tiny" Kalina and Ronald "Ronnie" Kalina; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Helen Kalina Sr.; brother, John Kalina; and sister, Kim Kalina. Duke was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in South Haven, IN. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in 2003. He was also a member of South Haven Lions Club and American Legion Post 502. After retirement, Duke worked for the Portage Township Trustee's Office and the Bonner Center. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Visitation will be held 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at Rendina Funeral Home 5100 Cleveland St., Merrillville. The Lion's club will have a service at 6:00 p.m. and the Legion will have a service at 6:30 p.m., both on Monday. He will be taken DIRECTLY to Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday for visitation until 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Paul Quanz and Rev. Doug Mayer concelebrating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Family Wishes. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
