DOROTHY J. OLSEN "DOTTIE" VALPARAISO, IN Dorothy J. Olsen, age 79, of Valparaiso, IN passed away on March 17, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Irving Olsen; her son, Robert (Amy) Olsen of Ballwin, MO; her daughter, Leslie (Steve) Thomas of Hobart, IN; and her grandson, Gregory Olsen. A second son, David James, passed away shortly after his birth. Dorothy was born on December 13, 1934 to Anna Johnson of Chicago, IL. She graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL in 1952 and then enrolled at Northwestern University School of Nursing in Evanston, IL. Dottie married her husband, Irving Olsen on February 6, 1954 in Evanston, IL. Theirs was a beautiful and loving marriage of 60 years. Dottie worked as the Office Manager of the Instructional Media Center at Valparaiso University for 21 years. She was also a member of ReVu, a group of retired Valparaiso University faculty and staff. Dottie was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, enjoyed playing bridge, and was an avid knitter (for Lutheran World Relief). She was also a superb watercolor painter, especially of flowers. Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, a memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 2610 N. Campbell Street, Valparaiso on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 12:00 noon with Pastor Timothy Knauff presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or VNA Hospice of Porter County.
