Edgar D. ("Dean") Hilzley Sr., age 83, of Valparaiso passed away on August 26, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 29, 1930 in East Chicago, IN to Harry and Thelma (Clark) Hilzley who preceded him in death. On November 12, 1950 he married Patricia (Sinclair) Hilzley, who also preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, sons: David (Cyndy), Skip (Cheryl), Mike (Robbie), and Kevin (Jean) Hilzley; daughters: Tricia (Frank) Guzzo, Karen (Norman) Gibson, all of Valparaiso; brother: David Hilzley; sisters: Harriet Gamauf and Dorothy Johnson; 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Dean was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Jr., son, Tommy Hilzley; grandchild, Aaron Guzzo; and great grandchild Antonio Velez Jr. Dean was a member of South Haven Christian Church for more than 40 years. He retired from US Steel and was a US Navy Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post # 502. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at South Haven Christian Church, 780 Juniper Rd. Valparaiso, IN 46385 with Minister Doug Dykstra officiating. Burial to follow at McCool Cemetery, Portage, IN. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368.
