Edward Stephen Sherman, age 91, of Valparaiso, formerly of East Chicago, IN and Palos Heights, IL, passed away Tuesday, August 13,2 013. He was born November 11, 1921 in the Indiana Harbor section of East Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Elaine Sherman; daughter, Janet (Wayne) Carpenter of Chesterton; son, Richard (Karen) Sherman of Austin, TX; grandchildren: Maya Carpenter, Susan Miller, John Sherman, and Katy Karim; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Charles Sherman; mother, Helen Sherman Adamchik; two brothers: Charles and James Sherman. Ed retired as an electrical engineer and patent agent from Films Packaging Division of Union Carbide Corp. in Chicago. He was a 1940 graduate of East Chicago Washington High School, a veteran of WWII where he served in the Army Air Corps, 448th Bomb Group on a B-24 Liberator. Ed was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, undefeated class of 1949. A devout Catholic, he volunteered at St. Agnes Senior Care in Valparaiso. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton with Rev. James Meade officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of Funeral Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryknoll Sisters, P.O.
